From coast to coast, Florida skaters delivered supplies, hot meals, and hope to communities rebuilding after Hurricane Irma.
Following Hurricane Ian, a strong wave of unity swept through Florida, spearheaded by an unexpected yet passionate group: The Just-Sk8 Community along with local Skaters on both coasts.
Skaters from Florida’s East Coast quickly mobilized, organizing donation drives that gathered food, water, clothing, hygiene products, and household items. Their mission extended beyond generosity—it was about supporting their extended skater family and neighbors on the West Coast, who were severely affected by the storm.
In just one week, this determination turned into tangible action. Volunteers filled three vehicles and traveled to areas north of Bonita Springs, joining others who had also come to assist. Together, they converted an empty lot into a lively relief hub brimming with support, compassion, and connection.
But their efforts went beyond providing supplies. With a grill in tow, the group cooked and served hot meals throughout the day, offering not just nourishment but also comfort, warmth, and a reminder that no one was facing this alone.
While the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma was undeniable, so was the community spirit that emerged in response. During a time of uncertainty, the skating community demonstrated that when people unite with purpose and heart, even the smallest actions can have a significant impact.
